Efficacy of Clindamycin for the Control of Streptococcal Infection in Cultured Fish, Flounder(Paralichthys olivaceus) and Eel(Anguilla iaponica)

Abstract
Efficacy of clindamycin was evaluated in laboratory and field studies for control of streptococcal infection in flounder and eel. In disc diffussion test all streptococcal strains showed high sensitivity to the clindamycin. Minimum inhibitory concentrations of clindamycin against all streptococcal strains used in thin study H-sere less than 0.195§¶/§¢. In laboratory studies where fishes Here challanged with streptococcal sp., significant reductions in mortality were observed among fish receiving clindamycin (in feed) at 5§·/§¸/body weight or more daily for 3d when compared with mortality of nun-medicated controls. Similar results were achieved when 50§·/§¸/body weight of eiprofloxacin was used in field trials.
